How It Works
Dental bonding uses tooth-colored composite resin to repair chips, cracks, gaps, and discoloration. It is the most affordable cosmetic dental procedure and can be completed in a single visit without anesthesia for most cases.
The Formula
Total = Cost Per Tooth x Number of Teeth
Out-of-Pocket = Total x (1 - Insurance %)
Note: Insurance only applies to structural, not cosmetic bonding
Out-of-Pocket = Total x (1 - Insurance %)
Note: Insurance only applies to structural, not cosmetic bonding
Variables
- Simple — Small chip repair, minimal shaping ($100-$250)
- Moderate — Gap closure, moderate reshaping ($250-$450)
- Complex — Full tooth reshaping, cosmetic contouring ($400-$700)
Example
2 teeth with moderate bonding at $350 each = $700. Structural repair with 50% insurance = $350 out-of-pocket. Cosmetic bonding has no insurance coverage.
Tips
- Bonding lasts 5-10 years — it is not permanent like veneers
- Composite can stain from coffee, tea, and red wine over time
- Bonding is reversible — unlike veneers, no tooth structure is removed
- Best for small cosmetic issues; veneers are better for full smile makeovers
- Can often be completed in 30-60 minutes per tooth with no anesthesia
